Deeyah Khan receives the Anders Jahres Humanitarian Culture Prize
The Anders Jahres Humanitarian Foundation's Culture Prize, an annual award that recognises excellence within Norwegian arts and culture has been awarded to Deeyah Khan.
Khan received the prize alongside three other filmmakers in celebration of their contributions to the Norwegian film industry both nationally and internationally. The award ceremony took place in the University Aula, the ceremonial hall of Oslo University on Thursday, 8th September.
Khan's work has explored male violence, life within multicultural societies, and how people are drawn into violent extremist movements. She has spent years filming Islamist extremists, convicted terrorists, former jihadis, as well as current and former white supremacists and domestic terrorists in America. She has also explored sensitive topics such as so-called 'honour' crimes and abortion rights from a feminist perspective.
